«Phonograph Big-Band» conducted by Sergey Zhilin (Russia)
Mike Clark’s Trio (USA)
“Flash with Jazz” is a cycle of concerts which is successfully organized and held by well-known jazz musician Sergey Zhilin and his “Phonograph” Band in recent years.
The next concert of the cycle is a joint project in which jazzmen from the USA will cooperate with Russian musicians. “Phonograph-Big-Band” and Mike Clark’s Jazz Trio will not only play a part of the concert, but they will play some compositions together. New interpretations of well-known jazz standards will be executed and the audience will enjoy modern bright energetic and emotional jazz more and more.
Mike Clark’s Trio (USA) is called “Mike Clark’s Carnival of Soul”. It is led by famous drummer Mike Clark. He is one of the best jazz and funk drummers in the USA. He performed with such celebrities as Herbie Hancock, Chet Baker, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, Gil Evans, Tony Bennett, Bobby McFerrin. Professional editions such as “Downbeat”, “Modern Drummer”, “Jazz Times”, “Guitar Player”, etc. published articles about his art. His beats were used on tracks by musicians as diverse as hip-hop band NWA, hip-hop star and DJ Grandmaster Flash, Prince, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, etc. Herbie Hancock called Clark “great jazz drummer”.
Clark comes to Russia with saxophonist Rob Dickson and organist Jerry Zed who have participated in record of “Carnival of Soul”.
Critics mark amazingly fresh and rich Dickson’s saxophone sounding. He worked with the Count Basie Orchestra, Ellingtone’s Orchestra and many other bands. Jerry Zed (his autonym is Yury Zaslavsky, he was born in Ukraine) at present time lives in New York and is recognized as one of the most original jazz and funk musicians of the city.
